Ten years of digital photography
The 8 th of July of 2004 I made this picture with the first digital SLR that I started to use for working.
Became the icon of some versions of the logo of Ramon Vaquero- Photography being representative of the type of photography that characterizes my work. It is possibly the first “serious image” I realized in digital format. Curiously, it has no retouching or any special processing.
While at that time it was common to hear absurd phrases like “you´ll lose the technology train” if you didn´t go for one of the previous limited and expensive digital SLR, I really was one of the latest photographers from my generation to adopt as a serious means the imaging digital format, Since it was clear that I would not make the transition until the quality was comparable to the image film with a reasonable budget.
Although “I climbed on the bandwagon” Digital without too much haste, my technical attitude with photography has always been far from being traditional in the sense “shoot-develope-end”: I have processed and involved my images always, with limited and convoluted means that chemical photography put at our disposal. So the jump to digital format, contrary to what might seem a photographer who used a mechanical and manual exposure cameras, It was completely natural but not without some effort in the process of restructuring, as many have experienced as well.
Fortunately, long ago that the term is not commonly used digital photography, simply spoken of Photography to have been taken and extended this format as usual in taking pictures. At the end, the cameras are only (or nothing more and nothing less than) tools. Visual culture, technical skills and attitude are much more decisive, even fundamental.
It can be considered that today, 8 th of July of 2014 meet ten years of digital photography. Not a very long time since then, but this is the photo…
